大學(xué)的靈魂是它的獨(dú)立和傳統(tǒng)精神。創(chuàng)新之意識，自由之，科學(xué)、人文之傳統(tǒng)等等，這些都是大學(xué)最重要的、共同的精神支柱。由于歷史的不同，以及地域文化與學(xué)科差異的影響，不同大學(xué)之間又形成了各自的傳統(tǒng)和精神，這是大學(xué)在共性之外的與個(gè)性。
